Kindness and Friendship overcome barriers

During 5 days, students and teachers from No Bell had the opportunity to get to know their colleagues from Italy and their culture by participating in their lessons and trips. The learning was at the local level (school in Cerveteri) and at a wider level (visiting Rome, Etruscan cemetery). Additionally, they got to know each other in the context of individual cooperation (classes in pairs, classes in Polish-Italian groups) and learning about Italian culture and the history of our hosts’ ancestors.

No Bell students experienced friendship without boundaries. They saw that friendship has no limits in relation to diversity: country of origin, native language, culture or disability.

Overcoming the language barrier, they saw that their mother tongue is not an obstacle in friendship. By establishing direct contact with a student from another school/country, they overcame their limitations related to fear, uncertainty, shyness or beliefs. The students overcame their limitations, turning them into friendships and cooperation (classroom activities, playing on the playground, asking for help, conversations between children, exchanging contacts).

Additionally, students from Cerveteri go to school together with students with disabilities of various types and degrees. Students from No Bell saw how each other’s children cooperate and support each other. In the country’s culture, this is also visible in many architectural adaptations, e.g. a common bench for people in and out of a wheelchair. Thanks to this, students from No Bell were inspired by ideas for integrating with everyone, regardless of their psycho-motor limitations.

Uczniowie wraz z nauczycielami z No Bell w ciągu 5 dni mieli okazję poznać kolegów z Włoch wraz z ich kulturą uczestnicząc w ich lekcjach i wycieczkach. Zapoznanie było na poziomie lokalnym ( szkoła w Cerveteri ) oraz szerszym (zwiedzanie Rzymu, cmentarz Etrusków). Dodatkowo poznawali się w kontekście indywidualnej współpracy (zajęcia w parach, zajęcia w grupach polsko-włoskich) oraz poznawania kultury Włoch, historii przodków naszych gospopdarzy.

Uczniowie z No Bell doświadczyli przyjaźni bez granic. Zobaczyli, że przyjaźń  nie ma ograniczeń w stosunku do różnorodności:  kraju pochodzenia, języka ojczystego, kultury czy niepełnosprawności.

Pokonując barierę językową zobaczyli, że w przyjaźni język ojczysty nie jest przeszkodą. Nawiązując bezpośredni kontakt z uczniem z innej szkoły/kraju przełamali swoje ograniczenia związane ze strachem, niepewnością, nieśmiałością czy przekonaniami. Uczniowie przełamali swoje ograniczenia przekuwając je w przyjaźnie i współprace ( zajęcia w klasie, zabawy na boisku, proszenie o pomoc, rozmowy między dziećmi, wymiana kontaktami). Dodatkowo uczniowie z Cerveteri chodzą doi szkoły razem z uczniami z niepełnosprawnościami różnego typu i stopnia. Uczniowie z No Bell zobaczyli jak nawzajem dzieci ze sobą współpracują i wspierają się. W kulturze kraju też widać to w wielu dostosowaniach architektonicznych np. wspólna ławka dla osoby poruszającej się na wózku inwalidzkim i bez. Dzięki czemu uczniowie z No Bell inspirowali się pomysłami na integrowani się z każdym niezależnie od jego ograniczeń psycho-ruchowych.

Our main objectives were to build these competences:

– Linguistic competence: interaction among students from different countries improved their English through outdoor and indoor activities such as guided tours, talks.

– Citizenship: students improved their social skills by experiencing Italian culture, language, and education system.

November 12th:

-Discovering the local area: morning guided tour of the ancient castle on Lake Bracciano.

-Afternoon workshop activities in the classroom: “beyond world boundaries”, let’s build the universe with recycled materials. Music as universal language

November 13th:

Trip to Rome! Long walk through the heart of the city, crossing the most iconic and historic 

November 14:

The history of Cerveteri and ancient peoples: guided tour of the Etruscan tombs.

Visit to the Town Hall and greetings from local authorities.

November 15:

“Games without Borders” in the gym!
